I produced a 20 episode documentary “Australia Chinese New Migrants”, It has been showing on screen through Chinese TV station networks in China. Unfortunately they are all in Chinese language at this stage. But I’d still like to introduce a few episodes of the documentary below. There are also linked to the trailers of the documentary. Even though the trailers are in Chinese, but you will still be able to see the image of the documentary. However I am going to re-edit it to English version next year.
It was based on stories about new Chinese migrants operating milk bars in Australia. The documentary talks about two types of new Chinese migrants with totally different backgrounds: one had a very good education and a very good job in China; the other did not attend much school back in China and does not understand much English at all. However, after arriving in Australia, they end up with the same destiny and the same job – becoming the owners of milk bars.
We explore the difficult times of Australian born Chinese children coping with both cultures. They find it easy to adopt to their new of easygoing lifestyle, but not so the parents who want to keep a relatively firm control over their children’s activities.
A story of three women’s experiences in marrying outside of their own nationality. The outcomes have a mixed result, one marriage lasts 8 years and still coping with different cultures. Another marriage lasts only 3 years and the reason for divorce was blamed on the cultural differences. The last story is a happy one with the relationship working well and having a sound loving marriage.
The success story of a man who arrived in
Australia with no formal education or qualifications, finds work as a dishwasher in a restaurant. With careful use of his money and sound investment he is now a millionaire owning and renting a number of properties in
Melbourne, He still works washing dishes!
An Artist in Australia
A successful Chinese artist arrives in Australia and had to resort to doing sketches on the streets to earn a living. Soon his talents are recognized and he is commissioned to complete portraits for “The Lord Mayor of Melbourne and “Princess Mary “ of
Denmark. He also was amongst the finalists for the prestigious “Archibald Prize” for art on 10 occasions and once as runner up. Pope John Paul also presented him with the Mary McKillop award.
If you can read Chinese, following there are many Chinese websites introducing my documentary.

The topics sound great. The links were a little hard to follow because I couldn’t understand the superimposed text. Are you going to incorporate any of them into your Transient Spaces documentary website?

I think your ideas are great andI found we have some similar thoughts on things.
In fact, above projects are issues I was thinking to cover in my TS project.
But since Sean told me that my first topic, Asian immigrants, was too broad, I changed my topic to “woman at workplace in Australia”.I am still not sure if this is a good topic for documentary…any suggection? @_@”"”
